Noobs to Ninjas

We don’t have enough coders in the area.

Why is this a problem? Well, for one coding is the closest thing to having a superpower. You can do some magical things with it. Aside for creating games, automating boring tasks, interacting and controlling machines, and making what’s in you head come true on a computer, it’s a fairly well paying career path.

We can do this but let’s not kid ourselves. No one is coming to save the area and bring us decent jobs if we don’t. So we’re going to use the Special Forces model:

We don't call for reinforcements. We train them.

So, to that end we’re starting a coding group – Noobs to Ninjas or N2N for short. If you’re interested here’s how it goes. We’re synching on a single platform, FreeCodeCamp, as the baseline instruction set. This is learn at your own pace program. We’ll also get together at the space most Saturdays. You might think since we don’t have internet at the space that’s a bad idea. The purpose is to see what we’ve got without the carefully crafted instruction set , without the lifeline of the web. Saturdays are “Put up or shut up” time. And if you don’t know, that’s OK. That’s their purpose: identify the weak points as fast as possible, retrain and hit it again. Plus, it’s time to teach because if you can teach it you really know it. And if you can’t – another weak point has been identified. So, if this is something for you, sign up, join the FB page and come to the Saturday meetups. If you’re not a member, don’t worry. This is one good way to see if FSW is your tribe or not.
